We build, renovate and maintain for residential and industrial clients, and we convert containers and put up fencing alongside that. What we sell our clients is that the work is done on the date we gave them and to a standard they can put their name to. The foreman is the person who makes that true.

You run the site: you set the week's programme, direct the trades on it, keep materials and plant arriving before they are needed, and you are the face the client deals with when they walk on. You answer to the director directly. There is no layer in between, and no one else to hand a problem to.

What the job involves

• Plan the week's work and sequence the trades so nobody stands waiting on someone else.
• Order and chase materials, plant and hired equipment so they land ahead of the task, not on the day.
• Supervise the crew and any subcontractors, and pull up work that is not to standard before it gets covered up.
• Run the site safely: toolbox talks, correct PPE, safe access, and no shortcuts on lifting or working at height.
• Keep the daily site record: labour on site, work done, deliveries, weather and delays.
• Be the client's point of contact on site, and raise anything that will affect the date or the price early rather than late.
• Check the work against the drawings and the spec, and run the snag list to a clean handover.

What we need from you

• At least five years in the building trades, of which two supervising a crew.
• You can read construction drawings and set out from them.
• Sound working knowledge of the Construction Regulations and of what a safe site looks like.
• Able to plan a week's work and hold to it, and to say so early when it will not hold.
• Valid driver's licence, since our sites are spread across the West Rand and Gauteng.
• You can write a clear site diary and a clear message to a client.

What would count in your favour

• A trade qualification in bricklaying, carpentry or plumbing.
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Supervisor.
• First aid or health and safety representative training.
• Experience with container conversions, fencing or structural welding.
